What is in it?
The ingredient profile can be divided into three macronutritional groups – protein, carbohydrates and fats.
- The proteins used are all instantised for easy mixing and bioavailability.
Microfiltered Isolate yields the highest percentage of proteins per gram over all protein powders; it also has the highest bioavailability and is virtually lactose free. Microfiltered WPC is the best “bang for your buck” protein, low in fat and carbohydrates and high in Glutamine, Di and Tripeptides and Oligopeptides. Milk protein solids are calcium enriched and are used in very small amounts to enhance the palatability of the product.
- The carbohydrate component of the formula was developed with strict attention paid to the delivery times and rate of carbohydrate conversion, and the synergy between carbohydrate and protein absorption.
The carbohydrate base is predominantly long chain polymers with small amounts of medium and short chain polymers to enable steady supply of glycogen to muscles for fuel and to help the flow of amino acids and proteins into the cell membrane for synthesis and repair of damaged tissue.
- The inclusion of essential fatty acids (EFAs) and medium chain triglycerides (MCTs) is of importance to the nutrient balance of P40, as dietary restraints often limit “good” fat intake for most consumers.
The role of EFAs is well documented. Some benefits may include reducing the risk of heart disease, lowering triglyceride levels, lowering blood pressure, improving immunity and joint function, and speeding up metabolism, to name a few.
