The anti-emetic (anti-vomiting) action of ginger is believed to be due to local gastro-intestinal effects - possibly a partial inhibition of gastric motility. Research has supported the use of ginger in morning sickness, and hyperemesis gravidum (severe vomiting and nausea of pregnancy, which normally requires hospitalisation).
